Editor:

I would like to thank everyone who helped to make "Jessica's Kauze" a huge success, whether you baked something for the bake sale, donated money or items for the auction, gave your time or said a prayer for Jessica. The Dailey Fire Hall was completely full. I am truly humbled by the love and the kindness and support of all.

I would like to share some statistics with your readers about stroke.

There are more than 795,000 new and recurrent strokes each year. Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in America today - and a leading cause of long term adult disability. Approximately 160,000 people die from stroke every year, and 5.5 million survivors continue to suffer its aftermath. One out of every 10 families are touched by stroke.

Know the signs of a stroke - sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion; trouble speaking or understanding; sudden trouble walking; dizziness; loss of balance or coordination; sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes; and sudden, severe headache with no known cause.
