Mr. Charles Edward Thornhill, U.S. Navy retired, 68, a resident of 1621 Brangus Road, Middleburg, Fla., departed this life at 8:13 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the home of his brother at 111Roosevelt Road in Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 3, 1943, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Clarence Edward and Lena Beatrice Barb Thornhill.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Bair of Florida; one daughter, Lore E. Thornhill and husband, Chris Keen, of Virginia; one son, Robert S. Thornhill, address unknown; one sister, Connie Thornhill; three brothers, James Thornhill, John Thornhill and Dave Thornhill; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are stepsons, Jim Bair, Joe Bair Timothy Bair and Mathew Bair.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Charlotte Kay Corley; stepson, Anthony Bair; and one brother, Robert Thornhill.
Mr. Thornhill graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg with the class of 1961 and retired from the United States Navy where he served 30 years of active service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 250 in Middleburg, Fla., and was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 9 p.m. today. On Saturday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m.. Mr. Thornhill will be moved to Concord Cemetery near Belington where full military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 96 of Belington and American Legion Post 44 of Philippi at 11 a.m. Interment will then follow.
