The Davis & Elkins College Athletic Department will offer six summer sport camps in June and July for area residents. The sport camps include a one-day hitting camp for softball, a boys and girls basketball day camp, a youth soccer camp, as well as two tennis and two volleyball camps.
D&E softball will kick off the camp season with two half-day camp sessions on Saturday, June 2 for ages 8 to 18 years-old. The first session will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and concentrate on hitting. Hitting stations will include tee work, hand speed drills, front toss, backwards toss, top hand drills and live hitting. The session will also include base-running fundamentals including leads and returns. The second session that day will focus on defense and run from 12 noon to 2 pm. Working on throwing progression and mechanics, station work will include a variety of skill and drill work including ground ball mechanics, quick drills, drop steps, and crow hops. Campers may sign up for one or both sessions and will receive a complementary D&E Softball Camp T-shirt. Cost for the one-day camp is $25 per session, or both for $45. Coach Bruce Martin will once again direct the boys and girls basketball Day Camp scheduled for June 18-21. The 4-day camp is designed for kids in second grade through a rising high school senior and will utilize both the McDonnell Center and Martin Field House Memorial Gym on the D&E campus. Players are grouped by age and basketball playing ability with instruction emphasizing skill development. All participants receive a camp T-shirt and final report card by the coaching staff. Coach Ovalle is conducting the Summer Youth Soccer Camp on D&E's front campus June 18-22 from 9 a.m. until noon. The camp is open to boys and girls of all skill levels age 5 to 12. The camp will focus on a different skill set each day.
Scrimmages are planned for each afternoon starting at 11:10 a.m. and culminate Friday with mock World Cup competition. Walk-up registration is $85 per child and includes a camp T-shirt. Sibling and D&E discounts are available. Call Coach Ovalle at 304-669-5270 with soccer camp questions.
Head tennis coach Otis Cutshaw will host a beginner tennis camp open to ages 5 to 12 years-old starting Monday, July 16 and continuing through Friday, July 20.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the D&E tennis courts and Martin Field House. Instruction will focus on the fundamentals of tennis using the USTA quickstart tennis method. The cost is $125 per player with snacks and drinks provided by the camp. Register before July 1 and pay just $80 per camper.
Head coach Ashley Pappas will direct two camps in July. The all skills camp will take place July 17-19 and is open to middle school and high school aged participants interested in gaining a solid foundation covering the basics of the sport to more advanced techniques. Cost of the camp is just $195 participant.
The second volleyball camp runs July 20-22 and will emphasize more advanced play. Coach Pappas is available at 304-637-1391 to answer volleyball camp questions.
