Dr. Matt Abraham takes pride in treating Broaddus Hospital patients with kindness and respect. That's part of the reason the emergency room physician and hospitalist was named Davis Health System's Physician of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2012.
Mark Doak, CEO of Davis Health System, recently announced Abraham's honor. Doak said the nomination included the fact that Abraham does extra tasks to help out when things are hectic and makes it a point to greet patients by name, making them feel welcome and at ease.
"Dr. Abraham's co-workers noted that he is an excellent physician who provides outstanding patient care," Doak said. "In addition, he was credited with being an outstanding communicator who spends time with patients to ensure they understand their condition. He is appreciated by both Broaddus patients and his co-workers."
Abraham earned his medical degree at the West Virginia University School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He said what he enjoys most is working with people in his home area.
"This is really an honor, because I work with a team of incredibly talented people," Abraham said. "It takes all of us to provide outstanding patient care at Broaddus Hospital and throughout Davis Health System."
In the nomination, Abraham's co-workers noted he is an "excellent physician, very knowledgeable and shares that knowledge in a teaching capacity with the staff. We are very fortunate to have a doctor with his qualifications work with us."
As an emergency room physician, Abraham treats people as they come into Broaddus Hospital for emergency care. He also serves as a hospitalist, following patients throughout their stay at the Barbour County hospital.
"We really want to thank Dr. Abraham for his commitment to putting patients first," Doak concluded.
Dr. Andrew Talkington, family practitioner with Buckhannon Medical Care, was selected Physician of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2011.
