June 1, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Elkins is looking for entry-level police officers.

On Saturday, the city's police department will offer the written test that kicks off the application process. After that comes a strength and agility test and a series of other evaluation steps that help identify the most qualified applicants, but the written test is the first step.

Applicants need to stop by the mayor's office at City Hall today if they would like to take the test.

Base entry-level pay is $27,082, plus holiday and overtime pay, with benefits.

Base pay increases to $31,200 upon completion of the mandatory one-year probationary period.

Officers with one or more years of longevity are eligible for annual supplemental compensation payment of $3,000 or more.

The test will be given at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the second floor of the Elkins American Legion Hall. Applicants must be at least 18 as of June 1, and not yet 41.

More information is available by calling 304-636-1414, ext. 1110.
