The Buckhannon Choral Society will present "We Praise Thee, O God" at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The cost of the concert is $8 for seniors/students and $10 for adults.
The concert will open with a wonderful piece arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram, which combines the spiritual "Wayfaring Stranger" and the hymn "Guide My Feet." The next section of the concert will feature arrangements and new works by Dan Forrest. These pieces include "How Great Thou Art," "Beautiful In His Time," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "My Jesus I Love Thee."
The Buckhannon Choral Society is scheduled to perform at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The audience will then experience three delightful spirituals, "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel" and "Battle of Jericho," both arranged by Mark Hayes, and "My Good Lord's Done Been Here," written by Andre Thomas and featuring soprano Katie Loudin.
The last section of the concert is a major work written by Forrest entitled "Te Deum." The "Te Deum," also referred to as "Te Deum Laudamus," is a hymn of praise to God and is literally translated into English as "You, God, We Praise." The "Te Deum" has become a standard expression of Christian faith through many generations. Evolving from chant, the text has been set to music by most of the well-known composers of concert music, such as Haydn, Handel, Bach, Mozart, Berlioz, Verdi, Bruckner, Dvorak, Britten, Elgar and Rutter. The English text for the piece comes from the Book of Common Prayer and is set to a brilliant musical arrangement. The choir is accompanied by pianist Jeanne DeFoe and will be joined by Kara Chenoweth for two pieces to play four-hand piano accompaniment. The choir is under the direction of Stephen Benson.
