Ellowene Helen Sherman Wingfield King, 85, a resident of the Moore Community, Parsons, passed from this life late Friday evening, June 1, 2012, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.
Ellowene was born Sunday, Sept. 19, 1926, in the Moore Community, a daughter of the late Oscar Berven "Pete" Sherman and Amanda Hosanna Helmick Sherman.
Married three times, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Wingfield, and her second husband, Joseph Turner. Third, she was married to Joseph E. King, who survives in the Moore Community.

Ellowene is survived by one son, John Wingfield and wife, Charlotte Jean, of Elkins; a son-in-law, Jesse Roy of Elkins; five stepchildren, Barbara Dilley of Elkins, James Wingfield and wife, Sandra, of Fayetteville, N.C., Paul Wingfield of Dailey, Julia Adkins, Franklin Wingfield and wife, Ann, all of Adrian, Michigan; five grandchildren, Valerie Bright and husband, Norman, Mark Roy and wife, Tasha, all of Elkins, Jennifer Rosier and husband, Jonathan of Parsons, Teresa Evans and husband, Gregory, of Martinsville, and Angela Dewitt and husband, Kenneth, of Elkins, 14 step-grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ellowene was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rev. Gloria Roy; one brother, Monroe Sherman; and one sister, Romona Cross. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Ellowene attended the schools of Tucker County. She worked several years at the Forestry Service and Dorman Woolen Mills of Parsons. She also worked several years as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Newport News, Va. She was employed at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas until her time of retirement. After her retirement, she enjoyed working with shut-ins and the elderly. She enjoyed attending church, playing piano and singing. Her home church was the Church of God in St. George.
Visitation will be held at Summerfield Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery.
