Martha Sue Dumire Turner, 61, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, June 3, 2012, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, following an extended illness.

She was born Sunday, July 16, 1950, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Gail E. and Vonda J. "Bonnie" Kennedy Dumire.

On June 3, 1989, at Elkins, she was married to Dr. David R. Turner, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kathleen "Katie" Martin Collins and husband, Richard, of Elkins; one brother, Edward R. Dumire and wife, Virginia "Ginny," of Beverly; one granddaughter, Erin Collins; several nieces and nephews, including, niece, Michelle Hise and husband, Bryan, and nephew, Timothy Dumire; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her godson, K.C. Crosston.

Preceding her in death was her special uncle, Harry R. Kennedy.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1968 and Davis Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing with the class of 1969. She had worked as a licensed practical nurse for more than 30 years, having worked for the Memorial General Hospital and several doctors including Dr. Rhee and Dr. Gomez prior to her illness. She was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church and was an avid gardener.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Wednesday, June 6, from noon to 2 p.m. At the request of the deceased, the casket will remain closed. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins.
