Upshur County Schools will operate summer school for currently enrolled elementary students of Upshur County in grades one to five and Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School eighth-graders.
The summer school is designed to instruct students needing assistance to retain or complete the mastery of grade-level content standards and objectives for the current school year in the areas of reading and math.
Summer school classes will be held at Buckhannon Academy Elementary School. The session will run for two weeks, except it will not take place on West Virginia Day, June 20.
The hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch being provided for the students. Upshur County Schools will provide limited transportation to Buckhannon Academy from centralized locations throughout the county. Bus scheduling will have the students arriving in time to have breakfast before classes begin at 8 a.m.
Upshur County teachers will be employed to teach students content standards and objectives at the assigned grade levels of reading and math.
The summer school is being provided by West Virginia Department of Education Critical Skills Grant Funds for grades three and eight, along with county levy funds and Step VII funds for grades one to five.
