MCHENRY, Md. - Christian Scott pitched six strong innings in relief and Colby Gainer had four hits to lead Elkins to a 12-7 win over Grantsville Monday in Post 29's season opener.
Scott surrendered just three hits, struck out six and walked one batter in earning the win for Elkins (1-0).
Post 29 trailed 7-5 midway through the contest, before scoring one run in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to take a 9-7 advantage.
Elkins tacked on another score the seventh before sealing the deal with two runs in the ninth.
"We're real happy to start the season off with a win," Elkins general manager Chris George said. "Christian (Scott) came in and gave us a great effort in relief."
Gainer drove two runs with his four hits to lead Post 29 at the dish.
Brennan Dettinger and Heath Broughton added three hits each for Elkins, while Ryne Bonnell knocked in three runs on a pair of hits.
Scott Colow suffered the loss for Post 214 in three innings of relief.
Pat Sines had two hits and collected a pair of RBIs to lead Grantsville (1-2) at the plate.
Post 29 will return to action today when it entertains Preston at Elkins High School.
Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
