Belington Public Library will host a book and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the library.
Many books have been donated or have been retired from the shelves and need a good home. Baked goods, hot dogs, nachos and drinks will be available as part of the library's fundraiser.
During the sale, library staff will be available to register eligible children for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Imagination Library is a free program for every Barbour County child age birth to 5. Each eligible child will receive a free book in the mail every month until his or her fifth birthday.
Each child younger than 10 who visits the library Saturday will receive a free "gently used" book of his or her choice from the library, while supplies last.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the library's annual participation in Tucker Community Foundation's Run For It, set in Davis on Sept. 29. The library's 2011 team, The Bookaneers, had about 20 members and captured many prizes for the library. Those who don't want to participate by running or walking still can support a team member. Details are available at the library or by visiting tuckerfoundation.whatsupwv.com.
The Tucker Community Foundation is a charitable organization based in Tucker County that serves eight surrounding counties, including Barbour, and it offers extraordinary fundraising opportunities for area organizations. The Run For It event allows area nonprofits to raise funds and awareness for their cause.
Belington Public Library's annual Summer Reading Program will be July 23-27. This summer's theme is "Dream Big - Read!" Parents can register their children, ages 7 to 12, at Saturday's fundraiser.
