Okey Ray Silman, 68, of Route 1, French Creek, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at his home following a three-month battle with Leiomyosarcoma cancer.
He was born at Hacker Valley, on Jan. 11, 1944, the son of the late Jesse James and Flossie Silman.
On June 19, 1965, he was united in marriage to Wanda Silman, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Okey Ray Silman II and wife, Anissa, of Buckhannon; three brothers, Junior and Theodore Silman, both of Hacker Valley and Edward Silman of Michigan; two sisters, Pearl Bender of Bendertown and Dessie Roby of Hopewell, Va.; one grandson, Camron Ray; and one stepgrandson, Isaac.
Mr. Silman grew up in Webster County and moved to Upshur County in 1965, where he was employed. He worked in construction, heavy equipment operation and truck driving. Okey enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8: p.m. today at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at the funeral chapel with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Interment will follow in Ware Cemetery at Hacker Valley.
