Mrs. Edith Maxine Freeman Bennett, 80, a resident of Philippi, departed this life at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
She was born July 10, 1931, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late Howard D. and Ida Viola Nestor Freeman.
On Aug. 8, 1977, she was united in marriage to the late Clarence J. Bennett, who preceded her in death May 13, 1989.

She is survived by one daughter, Freda Williamson of Petersburg; one sister, Geraldine Wright of Moatsville; two grandchildren, Robert Kline and wife, Barbara, of Philippi and Tanya Jo Marco and husband, Dave, of Petersburg; and several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Karl Freeman; and three sisters, Mable Keene, Edna Prichard and Delma Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett attended the schools of Barbour County and was a homemaker. She liked reading her Bible, cooking and spending time with her family.
Friends will be received from Talbott Funeral Home in Belington on Saturday June 9, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Cremation will follow.
