Four area players selected to all-conference first team

Two Philip Barbour players and one each from Elkins and Buckhannon-Upshur head the list of players selected to the All-Big Ten Conference first team.

Andy Green and Tyler Schiefelbein both earned top honors for the Colts, while the Tigers' Cody Gainer and the Bucs' Dalton Westfall rounded out the list of area players making the first unit.

Schiefelbein batted .368 this season for Philip Barbour, while Green hit at a .409 clip.

"Andy and Tyler both had great seasons," former Philip Barbour coach Stan Fitzwater said. "We could play Andy anywhere on the field and we wouldn't miss a beat. Tyler really helped us on the mound before he got hurt and miss the last part of the season."

Gainer led Elkins at the dish this season by hitting .409 with four home runs and 24 RBIs.

"Cody was our team leader this season," Elkins coach Adam Roth said. "He was great in centerfield for us all season and he also gave us some good innings on the mound."

Brady Weaver (Bridgeport), Matt Robbins (Fairmont Senior), Blake Kiger (Robert C. Byrd), Andrew Strand (Fairmont Senior), Trevor Malnick (Fairmont Senior), Colton Bonnett (Robert C. Byrd), Tyler Walter (Fairmont Senior), Joe Casalinuova (East Fairmont), Troy Shuck (North Marion), John Koon (Bridgeport), Cutter Atha (East Fairmont), Fletcher Duvall (Fairmont Senior), Adam Secret (Robert C. Byrd), Austin Bland (North Marion), Tre Kerns (Fairmont Senior), Cullin Cutright (Bridgeport), Johnny Kesling (Fairmont Senior) and Troy Anderson (Bridgeport) make up the rest of the first team.

Four Elkins players were selected to second team as James Gainer, Caten Murphy, Brennan Dettinger and Clayton Collett were honored.

Those four were joined on the second team by three Philip Barbour players - Chance Price, Seth Fitzwater and Doug Smith.

Buckhannon-Upshur's Daniell Powell was also a second-team selection and was joined by Brent Osborne (North Marion), Luke Pudder (Lewis County), Tyler Wood (Lewis County), Jacob McDougal (Lincoln), Seth Corwin (East Fairmont), Jason Wagner (Grafton), Nick Minutelli (Lewis County), Corey Mann (Bridgeport), Chase Alonso (Liberty), Luke Ash (Bridgeport), Brandon Kroll (Robert C. Byrd), Drew Musgrove (Grafton) and Hunter Hamrick (Lincoln).

Fairmont Senior's Steve Naternicola was named the league's Coach of the Year.

The Polar Bears' Trevor Malnick and Robert C. Byrd's Adam Secret shared Player of the Year honors. Bridgeport's Brady Weaver was Pitcher of the Year.
