Elkins rolls past Preston

KINGWOOD?- Elkins remained unbeaten on the season with a 20-5 win over Preston Tuesday in American Legion action.

Post 29, which improved to 6-0 on the year, pounded out 18 hits in the contest.

After both teams plated four runs each in the opening stanza, Elkins blew the contest open with a seven-run second inning.

Heath Broughton, who finished with two hits and five RBIs, led the surge in the second inning with a three-run homer. It was Broughton's second home run of the season.

Jake Wyatt, who finished with four hits and three RBIs, added a two-run double in the second.

Scott Fox also hit his second home run of the season, a three-run shot to left-center field in the fourth inning.

Tyler Shreve and Trevor Mouser added one hit and two RBIs each for Post 29.

Issac Riggleman earned the win for Elkins in five innings pitched. He scattered just four hits, struck out three and walked two.

"We hit the ball real well again tonight," Elkins general manager Chris George said. "Everyone contributed at the plate and Issac really settle down after a shaky start and pitched very well."

Bryce Nolan took the loss for Post 56 in 2 1/3 innings of work. Curtis Petka had three hits to lead Preston at the dish. Kaleb Atkinson added a solo homer.

Post 29 will open Hillbilly Hardball Tournament play on Thursday when it entertains Columbia (Md.) at 9:30 p.m. at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
