More than 200 flags are honorably retired Friday evening in Beverly near Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. American Legion Post 29 of Elkins members, along with community members and volunteers from the West Virginia Childrens Home participated in the ceremony. Ashes from the flags are then buried in the Little Arlington Cemetery in Elkins. Post Commander Michael Cardinal said the group holds a flag retirement ceremony each year to coincide with Flag Day.
