Adaland Mansion will host a special afternoon for children today in celebration of West Virginia's 149th birthday.
Adaland, Philippi's restored 1870 Victorian home, is located 4 miles north of downtown Philippi.
Free children/family activities will begin at 2 p.m. on the Adaland pavilion. Young visitors will have a host of activities in which to participate through 5:30 p.m. Among the many options available, they can choose to grind their own corn meal and then make pancakes, have their faces painted, learn origami, learn how to finger weave and learn about West Virginia through a series of coloring pages, all after enjoying birthday cake and ice cream. No reservations are necessary for the afternoon of free family fun.
Another event at Adaland is set for Saturday, a high tea. The event still has a few seats open. Set to begin at 2 p.m., it will include four courses of traditional tea foods including scones, tea sandwiches and hors d'oeuvres, fresh fruit and tarts, a selection of desserts and a variety of teas. Reservations for the high tea are available by calling 304-457-1587 or 304-457-2415.
