The descendants of Johan Conrad Winemiller and Johannes Winemiller have planned a family reunion this Saturday at the Central West Virginia Genealogy and History Library, 45 Abbotts Run Road, Horner. The reunion will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a potluck lunch at noon.
Drinks and table service will be furnished. Attendees are asked to bring one or two food dishes to share.
Conrad and Johannes Winemiller arrived in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1738, aboard the ship Thistle from Rotterdam by way of Plymouth, England. It is believed that most, if not all, persons with the surname Winemiller in the United States are descended from these two brothers.
The brothers were born and raised in Rumbach, Pfalz, Germany. Their father, Hans Weinmueller, operated a mill there. The mill is still in existence and is owned by the descendants of a cousin of these two men.
Attendees are invited to bring photographs, genealogy information and anything that might interest anyone in the Winemiller Family; and ideas to help plan for the 250th anniversary in 2013 of the brothers' arrival in the United States.
If attending the reunion and traveling from Interstate 79, take Exit 99 toward Buckhannon and U.S. 33 East. Go approximately 2.5 miles past Wal-Mart, turn left toward Horner at the Horner-Georgetown crossroads. The library will be directly in front. It is handicapped accessible, with two new handicapped ramps.
