Betty Lorraine Savage DeWitt, 70, of Bowden, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at her residence.
Born April 19, 1942, at McHenry, Md., she was the daughter of Gladys Savage and the late Parley Savage.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Darla DeWitt; and two brothers, Dale Savage and Deane Savage.
Betty was a good hearted, fun loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a current member of Bunker Hill Brethren in Christ Church, Bunker Hill. Betty was an accomplished piano player and taught piano for 38 years. She served as pianist and organist for numerous churches along with weddings, funerals and revivals. While residing in the Deep Creek Lake area, she was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and was the accompanist for GCC Choral Groups at GCC and Allegany College. She has blessed many with her beautiful music. Betty remained a charter member and volunteer of the Deep Creek Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her loving husband, Andrew DeWitt; daughter, Debi Ayers and husband, Jerry, of Bowden; son, Danny DeWitt of Bowden; and daughter, Dana DeWitt of Oviedo, Fla. Betty was very proud of her five grandchildren, Dave Hertig of Lynchburg, Va., Jeremy Ayers and wife, Christina Ayers, and Garrett Graham, all of Morgantown, Amanda Ogden and husband, Johnny, of Bowden and Sheena Graham of Oviedo, Fla.
Betty was looking forward to ending her battle with cancer and being reunited with her loved ones in her heavenly homecoming. Yet, her main objective was to ensure that her family and friends knew how much she loved and cared for them. Betty taught us all that to love and be loved is the greatest joy on earth.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, Accident (McHenry), Md., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren on Friday, June 29, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery.
