Willard Glenn Wamsley, 84, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Monday afternoon, June 25, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.
Willard was born Wednesday, Nov. 30, 1927, at Mill Creek, a son of the late Genus Wamsley and Mary Bell Pingley Wamsley.
On Sept. 8, 1949. in Elkins, he was married to the former Ruth H. Haddix, who survives. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of Tygart Valley, Willard graduated from Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1945. He enlisted in the United States Army following high school and served in post-war Germany until 1947. He worked as a storekeeper until opening the Wamsley General Store which everyone referred to as Willard's. He owned and operated the store for 33 years until his retirement in 1993.
Besides his parents, Willard was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Wamsley; two sisters, Mary Mallard and Virginia Wamsley; and two brothers, Wilson Wamsley and Ernest Wamsley.
Left to cherish Willard's memory along with his wife are two daughters, Patrice Wamsley and husband, David, of Annapolis, Md., and Amy and husband, Bill Harris, of Brazelton, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sean and Shaina Wamsley and Alexis and Clint Taylor; one brother, Denver Wamsley and wife, Gatha, of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be conducted at Randolph Funeral Home on Thursday, June 28, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville where members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the West Virginia Honor Guard will present the American flag.
