Elkins gets doubleheader sweep at Potomac Valley

PETERSBURG?- Elkins swept a doubleheader from Potomac Valley Tuesday in American Legion baseball action at Petersburg High School.

Post 29 won the first game 8-2 and completed the sweep with an 11-1 win in the nightcap.

Christian Scott pitched a complete game and Scott Fox provided the fireworks at the plate for Elkins (13-5) in the opener.

Scott scattered six hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter to run his record to 4-0 on the season.

Fox finished with three hits and led the charged in a five-run fourth inning with a three-run triple.

Scott helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs. Caten Murphy drove in a run on two hits for Post 29.

Daniel Hevener suffered the loss for Potomac Valley in Game 1. Hevener allowed seven runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Alex See had two hits and one RBI to lead Post 64 at the plate.

Murphy, Scott and Chance Price had two hits each to lead Elkins in the second contest. Murphy knocked in three runs, while Scott had two RBIs and Price one.

Cody Gainer earned the win for Post 29 in four innings pitched. He allowed just four hits, struck out eight and walked five.

Jared Kite surrendered seven runs on six hits to take the loss for Potomac Valley in four innings on the mound.

Alex See went 3-for-3 to lead Potomac Valley at the dish.

"We challenged our kids to come out and play hard, and they responded," Elkins General Manager Chris George said. "Out pitchers all pitched great, we got timely hits, and we played very good defense. It was a great overall effort."

Elkins will return to action today when it travels to Buckhannon for a 7 p.m. Area 5 contest.
