Fordland cruises in title game

Elkins Babe Ruth City Tournament

Elkins Fordland erupted for 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 17-0 victory over Suzuki Thursday in the Babe Ruth City Tournament championship game at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Fordland, which was also the regular-season champions, finished the season with a 22-3 record.

Cole Harlan had two hits in the first inning, including a run-producing single and double to lead Fordland. Blake Loftis added an RBI double in the inning, while John Huffman had an RBI single..

Fordland scored six more runs in the bottom of the second inning to extend the lead to 16-0. Trey Bodkin and Ethan Miller both had RBI singles in the second, while Richard Simmons, Will Crumm and Harlan had RBI groundouts.

Fordland finished the scoring in the third inning as Huffman collected an RBI single.

David Gainer notched the win for Fordland in three innings of work. He gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two.

Bodkin and Huffman both pitched one inning of relief for Fordland.

Harlan, Huffman, Gainer and Ethan Miller all finished with two hits each for Fordland.

Ryan Hoffman took the loss for Suzuki in one inning of work. Zac McCauley and Jace Kyle both pitched in relief.

Rece Wamsley and Hoffman had the lone hits for Suzuki.
