Lewis County still dark

Upshur facing heavy power outages as well

Mon Power officials estimate 99 percent of Lewis County customers remained without power Sunday evening and only will state it will be sometime "later this week" before it will be restored.

Meanwhile, in Upshur County about 8,000 customers were without electricity as of presstime, including 4,400 in Buckhannon. No timetable was available for restoration of service in this area.

Mon Power representatives indicated nearly 10,000 customers throughout Lewis County still were without power as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Because of the widespread outages, portions of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital will be closed today. All procedures scheduled at the radiology department, physicians' offices, Lively Health Care and physical therapy department will be rescheduled.

The main hospital itself, along with the emergency room, will remain open. Hospital employees are asked to call 304-269-8103 to see if they should report to work.

Other medical and emergency services also are available in the region.

While Kroger in Weston is closed, those who called in prescriptions prior to 7:30 p.m. Friday may check with the pharmacy to learn how to pick up their medication.

In addition, cooling stations have been set up at the Pricetown and Midway fire departments.

The storm and its aftermath have had a similar impact in Upshur County, where St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon is operating on an emergency basis. Officials there asked that patient visitation be limited because of heat concerns, according to information provided by hospital spokeswoman Lisa Wharton Turner.

The hospital is not accepting obstetrical patients or patients transported by ambulance at this time. The emergency department is open and accepting walk-in patients. Current in-patients were offered the option of being transferred to another facility because of the lack of air conditioning.

All St. Joseph's physicians' offices will be closed today. Patients with appointments are asked to call the appropriate office to reschedule once power is restored.

Like in Lewis County, cooling stations have been established in Upshur as well. They are at Banks Volunteer Fire Department in Rock Cave and at Ellamore VFD.

Stonewall Resort will be closed until power is restored. Those with reservations are asked to call 304-269-7400. If there is no answer, the power still is out. Resort officials will work out the details of a refund as soon as their systems are operational.

Weston Mayor Julia Spelsberg indicated today's City Council meeting has been canceled and Weston Transfer Service will operate on its normal schedule.
