Hilda Ann Lyons, 88, a resident of Locust Avenue, Philippi, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 6, 1924, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Troy and Emma Catherine Poling Stemple.
She was united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1944, to Morgan H. Lyons, who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 2004. She was a loving wife and mother.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Morgan H. Lyons Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Morgantown and Kevin A. Lyons and wife, Gretchen, of Philippi; one brother, Dr. Jack Stemple and wife, Jackie, of Bahama, N.C.; six grandchildren, Christopher M. Lyons of Broomfield, Colo., Aaron N. Lyons of Erie, Colo., Dara C. Titus of Lynchburg, Va., Haley N. Lyons, Olivia R. Lyons and Logan M. Lyons, all of Morgantown; one great-grandchild: Nathan Lyons of Erie, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Vance Stemple, James Stemple, Doug Stemple, and Ned Stemple.
Mrs. Lyons worked as a bookkeeper for Consol Coal and McCoy Brothers Inc. She was a member of Philippi Order of Eastern Star Chapter 41, Woodmen of the World and Saundemi. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, loved watching tennis and loved to bake and cook.
Mrs. Lyons was a cancer survivor. She was a member of Philippi United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Wednesday, July 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. The OES Chapter 41 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 8 to 11 a.m., services following with the Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
