Twenty students from the local region participate in the American Legion’s 75th annual Mountaineer Boys State at Jackson’s Mill, held June 10 to 16. Randolph County participants included Jon Gainer, Mason Woodford, Tyson Currence, Derek Hinkle, Nathaniel Simmons, Sean Cain, Thomas Cain, Paul Hartel, Clayton Johns, Trevor Schoonover, Jacob Schoonover, Ryan Summerfield, Brandon Monroe, Aaron New, Jarred Bowers, Jacob Currence, Steven Demyan, Dustin Currence, Dereck Hammrick and Trackie Cooper. The educational program is designed to give boys from around the state a chance to participate in a model state with governmental bodies and elected public officials. The weeklong camp is for male students who just completed their junior year of high school.
