A mass care regional shelter has been opened in the gymnasium at West Virginia Wesleyan College, according to a news release from the Upshur County Office of Emergency Management.

This shelter is being operated by the state chapter of the American Red Cross. Free meals and air conditioning are available to anyone, not just Upshur County residents, in need of a cool place to sleep or relax following the severe storm Friday and power outages. The shelter at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church is closed.

Water should now be pumping on all lines. Anyone who still has problems should contact the local Public Service District. Anyone who needs free bulk water, suitable for flushing commodes, washing clothes, etc., can bring containers to the Adrian PSD on Route 20 in French Creek. The tanker is provided by the state Division of Highways. More than 5,000 customers remained without power as of this morning.

There are cooling and water stations at the Banks District Volunteer Fire Department in Rock Cave, Buckhannon Fire Department in downtown Buckhannon and Ellamore Volunteer Fire Department on Route 151 in Ellamore. Bottled water will be available today.
