James Stalnaker

James S. "Jim" Stalnaker, age 93, of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Elkins Hospice Care in Elkins.

He was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Horner.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Greene Stalnaker; his wife, Jeanne Corley Stalnaker, who he married Oct. 15, 1949. and preceded him in death July 18, 1995; son, Michael Gene Stalnaker; brother, Chester Stalnaker and two sisters, Peggy Ferguson and Mary "Peaches" Cutright.

Surviving are his children, Linda Lorraine Wentz of Fort Mill, S.C.; James Scott Stalnaker, Jr. of Elkins; Jon Eric Stalnaker of Lewisburg; daughter-in- law, Linda Stalnaker of Taylor Mill, Ky.; 13 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Jim served as a Medic with the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired from Union Drilling, Inc., was a member of the VFW Post 3663 and a member of the Buckhannon Alliance Church.

The family received friends on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel, where services will begin at 11 a.m. today with Pastor Jack Bohman officiating.

Burial will follow in the Reger Chapel Cemetery.

The VFW Post 3663, American Legion Post 7 and the DAV Chapters 5 & 36 will provide Military Funeral Honors.
