Former Pendleton County head coach John Lawson was recently hired back to become the new boys basketball coach at Elkins High?School.
Lawson takes over for Roy Simms, who stepped down to take an assistant coaching job at Davis & Elkins College.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to become the head coach at Elkins," Lawson said. "I think the time was correct and it was the right opportunity for me."
Lawson, who graduated from High School at Tygarts Valley in 1988, played college basketball at Alderson-Broaddus College.
"I think coach Lawson will bring a good positive attitude to the program," Elkins athletic director Todd Price said. "I think it will take time for him to adjust to the program and kids, but I think he will do well here."
Lawson was an assistant under Tom Gutshall at Tucker County in 2011-2012 and was the head coach at Pendleton?County from 2009 to 2011.
