Elkins softball teams shine in tournaments

The Elkins Explosion traveling softball teams recently competed in five different tournaments during the months of June and July.

The two squads are in their third year of competition. One team is for girls 12 year-old and under, while the second squad is for players 14 years-old and under.

The 12 and under team includes Sydney Leary, Susan Riggleman, Kaci Gatehouse, Morgan Bowers, Haley Collett, Korri Evans, Sierra Poling, Alyssa Thompson, Madison Wagner,?Lauren Wilmoth and Natalie Wolford.

The Elkins Explosion teams competed in tournament play over the months of June and Part of July all throughout the state. The Explosion have two teams a 12 and under and 14 and under. The 12 years-old and under team members are Sydney Leary, Susan Riggleman, Kaci Gatehouse, Morgan Bowers, Haley Collett, Korri Evans, Sierra Poling, Alyssa Thompson, Madison Wagner, Lauren Wilmoth and Natalie Wolford. The 14 years-old and under team members are Amelia Preusch, Alyssa Harper, Abby?Fincham, Amy Fincham, Abby Gooden, Sara Burky, Jordan Hart, Jarrah Reams, Katy Reed, Taylor Pingley, Lauren Ray, Bailey Young and Michaella Young.

The 14 and under squad is made up of Amelia Preusch, Alyssa Harper, Abby Fincham, Amy Fincham, Abby Gooden, Sara Burky, Jordan Hart, Jarrah Reams, Katy Reed, Taylor Pingley, Lauren Ray,?Bailey Young and Michaella Young.

The teams are coached by Kim Stiles, who is the Davis & Elkins College head softball coach , and Lady Senators assistant softball coach Kristen Tunno.

Carissa Dunn and Gary Hart are assistant coaches for the team.

The teams competed in tournaments in Salt Rock, Mineral Wells, Parkersburg, South Charleston and Morgantown.

The 12 and under team won the state championship in the Bronze Division during the USSSA state tournament in Parkersburg.

The 14 and under team was runner-up in the USSSA Mountaineer Shootout this past weekend in Morgantown. The two squads are planning on hosting a tournament at the end of July.
