James Arthur McCabe of Alpharetta, Ga., passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2012, from heart failure while vacationing in West Virginia.
Jim was born and raised in Jersey City, N.J.
After four years in the Navy, Jim obtained an aerospace engineering degree from the University of Florida. He worked for Pratt and Whitney for 22 years in various engineering and management positions primarily in West Palm Beach, Fla., with the last four years spent in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He later returned to Saudi Arabia as the principal engineer on a new airport being built in the Eastern Province. Jim then moved to Georgia where he worked as a technical representative for EquiTech of Georgia before retiring.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Ellen; and their son, Sean James, both of Alpharetta, Ga.; as well as his daughter Catherine Hayes of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; his sister, Patricia Pagnetti of Roselle Park, N.J.; and beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in Florida and New Jersey.
Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Burgoon Ault; and sister, Dorothy Dress.
Jim and his wife Ellen were avid travelers and history buffs. After marrying in the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific, they traveled extensively, visiting 86 countries, many of them multiple times and lived twice in the Middle East totaling six years.
Jim's wife is the former Ellen Talbott of Elkins, sister to Elkins Mayor Duke Talbott, Mark Talbott of Talbott Glass and Elkins Builders Supply and John Talbott formerly with Coastal Lumber.
Funeral services will be conducted at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Ga., at noon on Saturday, July 14. Interment will be Saturday, Aug. 4, in a family plot in the historic Beverly Cemetery in West Virginia.
