Pet Door Rescue 5K scheduled

July 12, 2012
By John Clise - Staff Writer , The Inter-Mountain

Organizers have announced plans for the second annual Pet Door Rescue 5K set for Sept. 22 in Buckhannon.

Katie Anderson said last year's fundraising event landed the Pet Door Rescue Group about $2,000.

Pet Door Rescue is a local group that provides foster homes, permanent placement and funding for veterinary care, including the spaying and neutering of pets that have been abandoned or would otherwise be placed in shelters.

Anderson said the group also helps pet owners with items such as pet medications, food, litter and litter boxes.

"Our goal is to provide happy, loving forever homes to pets and to reduce the number of unwanted animals via sterilization and owner education," Anderson said. "We depend solely on generous donations by the community in terms of money, time, pet fostering and veterinary care."

Anderson said the group carries a large running bill at a local veterinary clinic and makes payments when it is able.

The event will be staged at the 88 Restaurant again this year.

In addition to the 5K, the event also will include a Dog Dash for fun in the spirit of the organization, and as an extra fundraiser. In this event, dog owners may race their leashed dogs in a short dash from the 88 Restaurant down to College Avenue. The winning dog will receive a prize.
