Area athletes recently honored

Upshur County Special Olympics Director Susan O'Dell has announced the names of two athletes who were honored this year.

Tasha Carrico was named Athlete of the Year for 2012. She is the daughter of Joe and Debbie Carrico, of Buckhannon. A 2004 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School, Carrico loves spending time with her friends and family. She has been part of the Special Olympics team for more than nine years.

Josh Howell had the honor of carrying and placing the "Olympic Torch" to start the Summer Games in Charleston on June 1. He is the son of Mike and Patsy Howell, of Beverly. He also won two silver medals during the games. He graduated from Elkins High School in 2007. He has been with Upshur County Special Olympics for two years.
