Super Fund supported

July 21, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Editor:

The Tygart Valley Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation's 16th annual Super Fund Banquet was a huge success. A large percent of the money made at the banquet comes back into the West Virginia Chapter Super Fund to be used in the state.

Since 1985, more than $1 million has been raised by the chapters in the state to be used on various projects within the state: $325,117 used to purchase more than 7,000 acres to be used by all types of hunters; $157,840 for habitat enhancement on 1,650 acres; $130,452 for special events to introduce youth, women and people with disabilities to outdoor activities and hunting through our Jakes Days, Women in the Outdoors and Wheeling Sportsmen; $90,878 spent for college scholarships, education boxes, 4-H and teacher's workshops; $49,312 spent on wild turkey research; $9,000 on checking stations, poaching rewards in support of law enforcement and turkey surveys; $45,350 for promoting and protecting our hunting heritage within our state and $8,735 for hunter safety material and interactive shooting systems.

With that in mind, I would like to thank all the people who make this possible - the people who attended the banquet; the Banquet Committee, Don and Trish Thomason, Mike and Maxine Metzner, Bill Bargo, Bruce Evan, Barbara Sargent and Jason Mearns; the auctioneer Ron Phillips; Jim Crum for the paperwork with the guns; Cully McCurdy, the NWTF regional biologist; the raffle girls, Ashley and Sierra Watkins' the banquet underwriters, Davis Trust Co., Mountain Valley Bank, Citizens Bank, Performance Motors, Elkins Fordland, All-American Preowned Auto, Elkins Motorsports Inc., Parrack Insurance Agency, Liggett's Supply, Elkins Distributing Co., Glotfelty Tire Center, B&J Pawn and Sports, Polino Contracting Inc., J.W. Carpenter DDS Inc., Williams and Associated, House Hunters Reality, Advanced Hearing Solutions, Heritage Hearing Aids, Tomblin Funeral Home, Bennett Brothers Construction, Randolph Memorial Co.; and the people who donated items, William and Diane Bargo, Rick and Arvida Marple, J.C. Distributing, Wheelers, Coleman Cain, Barbara Sargent, Mike Pizzino, Gary Thomason, Al Collins of Al's Calls, Gandy Dancer, Talbott Frame Shop and Sharp Jewelry.

If you would like to become a member of our chapter, give one of us a call and attend our banquet next year.
