William E. "Red" Kane, 86, of Durbin, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, at his home in Durbin.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, at Cass, he was a son of the late John Michael and Neoma Dill Kane, Sr.
Red was of the Methodist faith, was a businessman with over 60 years of service in Pocahontas County, where he owned Kane's Grocery in Durbin and Cass, Kane's Furniture, Appliance and Hardware Store, Kane's TV Service in Cass & Durbin, MCB Cable Company in Marlinton, Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Marlinton, was President and Director of the First National Bank in Marlinton, and was a Pocahontas County School Bus operator for over 30 years.

Red was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 124, Elks Lodge in Elkins, Beni Kedem Shrine and was a veteran of the Merchant Marines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne C. Kane; and a brother, Jack Kane.
He is survived by daughters, Jeanne Kane Roth (Allen) of Bradenton, Fla., and Lori Ann McClung (Chuck) of Lewisburg; a son, Mark A. Kane (Marsha) of Durbin; grandchildren, Michael Roth and wife, Jenn, Kevin Roth and wife, Laura, Jennifer Craig and husband, Tim, Elizabeth McClung, Christine McClung, Mark Kane II and wife, Anna, and Eric Kane; great grandchildren, Kelsie Craig, Samuel Roth, Daniel Roth, William Roth, Joshua Roth, Ryan Roth and Shelby Roth; and two great-great grandchildren, Marka and Hallie Kane.
Masonic graveside rites will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at the Arbovale Cemetery, with Bro. Dave Plank officiating.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Durbin Public Library.
