Mr. Charles Leon "Boomer" Frey, 83, a resident of the Tacy Community, departed this life at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Society at Belington. He had been in declining health for quite some time.
He was born Aug. 17, 1928, at Hot Springs Ark., a son of the late Floyd Thamer Sr. and Hazel E. Marshall Frey.
On Feb. 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Colleen May Freeman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2012.
He is survived by one son, Floyd L. "Butch" Frey and wife, Pam, of Springfield, Missouri, one daughter, Loretha Phillips and husband, Jerry, of Belington. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Darren Frey of France, and Andrea Frey and Kim Burnett, both of Missouri, and Todd Phillips of Maryland; great grandchildren, Jenna, Luke, Kaleigh and Jacob Burnett and Chloe, Lydia and Esther Phillips.
Other survivors include two brothers, George "Gus" Frey and wife, Betty, and Tommy Frey and wife, Noretta, all of Moatsville.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by six brothers, Floyd Thamer "Bus" Frey Jr, Robert "George" Frey, Ralph "Chick" Frey, James "Brandy" Frey, Harold "Enoch" Frey and Darl "Bevo" Frey; four sisters, Christine Morris, Edith Marsh, Margaret Marsh, and Joann Frey; and two stepbrothers, Lewis Semmelman and Donald Semmelman.
Mr. Frey was a 1947 graduate of Kasson High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. In 1982 he retired from the Badger Coal Company Construction Crew. He attended the Central Chapel Church, was a member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and dearly loved his children and his grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and again on Tuesday, July 31, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor James "Oz" Gray and Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery near Belington, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi and Post 96 of Belington.
