Thomas Henry Hammonds, 92, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Thursday, May 27, 1920, at Webster Springs, a son of the late Robert Hammonds and Osie Tharp Hammonds.
He was married to the former Mabel Gear, who survives.
Others left to cherish his memory are two children, Pamela K. Friend and Timothy L. Hammonds; 14 grandchildren, Debbie Osborne, Kimberly Denney, Lonnie Straughn Jr., Thomas J. Price Jr., Crystal J. Price, Heather M. Price, Randy Hammonds, Misty Hammonds, Ashley Miller, Lauren Hammonds, Danielle N. Hammonds, Jason M. Hammonds, Danny R. Hammonds Jr. and Kerry T. Hammonds; 15 great-grandchildren, Michael R. Stuart III, Joshua M. Stuart, Josie Straughn, Bailey Straughn, Teagan R. Price, Tiana J. Price, Arianna H. Price, Faith M. Hunt, Joshua M. Hammonds, Larry R. Hammonds III, Collin L. Jones Hammonds, Danni R. Hammonds, Tyler M. Hammonds, Brayden R. Hammonds and Troy S. Hammonds; a sister-in-law, Jody A. Hammonds; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Thomas in death were four children, Joellen Denney, Sandra S. Straughn, Danny R. Hammonds and Larry R. Hammonds; and three siblings, Mart Hammonds, Velma Hammonds and Ira Hammonds.
Thomas attended the schools of Randolph County, had served with the United States Army during World War II and had worked in the coal mines and at Bethlehem Steel as a heavy equipment operator where he was a member of Union Local 311. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Visitation will be conducted Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Randy Long will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery where members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
