An employee of an Elkins restaurant has been charged with a felony after allegedly stealing property from the business, officials said.
Brandon Scott Johnson, 31, of 201 11th St., Elkins, was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand larceny. Johnson posted a $2,500 surety bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon.
According to the criminal complaint, Senior Patrolman R.W. Belt of the Elkins Police Department met July 23 with John Smith, owner of the Railyard Restaurant.
Smith told police a Sharp video projector with remote and cables valued at $1,054 was stolen from the restaurant. The projector had been kept in an employee-access-only stairwell, according to the complaint.
On July 25, Lt. S.D. Richards recovered the projector from Phillips & Sons LLC Pawn Shop on Davis Avenue. Personalized markings had been removed from the top of the projector, the complaint stated.
Police said the pawn slip was signed by Johnson, an employee of the restaurant. Smith identified both Johnson and the projector, according to the complaint.
In other magistrate court news, a Dailey man was arrested for failing to appear at a felony hearing.
Aaron Wayne Kittle, 25, was charged with third-offense shoplifting July 20 and released on a $40,000 surety bond, according to court records. Kittle failed to appear for a hearing July 31, and a warrant was issued.
Kittle was arrested Wednesday for failure to appear, and his bond was revoked. He will remain incarcerated pending a hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 13, according to court records.
