Ralph Russell Miller, 82, a resident of the Rosendorf Community, Hendricks, departed this life Thursday morning, Aug. 2, 2012, near Canaan Valley as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Sunday, June 29, 1930, at Greentree, Pa., a son of the late Harry and Pearl Huddle Miller. On July 27, 1951, at Baltimore, Md., he was married to the former Jean Harsh, who preceded him in death Sept. 17, 2008.
They had celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin Andrew Miller and wife, Cynthia Ann, of Hacker Valley, and Jeffrey Scott Miller and wife, Lisa, Dawn of Terra Alta; stepson, Donald Carl Vest and, Annetta, of St. George; two daughters, Diane Louise McDonald and husband, Robert, of Lorain, Ohio, Roberta Rae Miller of Elyria, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Lenora Carol Nimmo of Hambleton; 11 grandchildren, Robert, Kimberly, Michael, Richard, Danielle, Andrea "Andi," Chloe, Alison, Ashli, Lynette and Donald; and six great grandchildren.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Miller, John "Buck" Miller, Joe Miller and Edward "Peanuts" Miller.
He attended the schools of Baltimore.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was a brakeman for Lake Terminal Railroad of Lorain for 25 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the former Garnett Post Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons. He was a member of the United Transportation Union. He enjoyed attending the Fellowship Breakfasts at the First United Methodist Church at Parsons. He was a member of the Athletic Boosters Club of Parsons, an avid sports fan and enjoyed woodworking and John Wayne movies.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m., a Celebration of Life will be conducted by the Rev. Jeff Anderson and a private interment will follow at a later date with full military honors.
