Bulldogs open campaign; EHS?fares well

Tigers finish seventh among 27 teams at Pete Dye Invitational

SNOWSHOE - The Tygarts Valley golf team placed third in its season-opening match at the Raven Golf Course on Monday.

Richwood won the match with a 200. Webster County (201), Tygarts Valley (220) and Pocahontas County (225) followed.

Richwood's Ryan Bennett shot a 39 to earn low-medalist honors for the match.

Webster was led by Mark Bane's 46.

Tygarts Valley's top finishers were Tyler Gum (49), Alex Hinzman (55), Jared Wegman (58) and Casey Martell (58).

Cody Sharp shot a 48 to lead Pocahontas County.

Tygarts Valley travels to Canaan Valley on Wednesday.

EHS TAKES?SEVENTH: The Elkins High School golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the Pete Dye Invational on Monday.

Wheeling Park and University both tied for first with a 223 to lead the field of 27 teams. North Marion was third with a 236.

Wheeling Park's Thadd Obecny and Bluefield's Evan Smith both shot a 70 to earn low-medalist honors.

Elkins was led by Alex Baird, who placed eighth with a 76. Braden Hammond (25th, 81), Kollin Hopwood (39th, 85) and Remington Knight (81st, 99) followed for the Tigers.

Buckhannon-Upshur finished 17th overall and was led by Dalton Westfall's 84. Dalton Crislinp shot an 89 for the Bucs.

Elkins travels to Stonewall Country Club on Wednesday.
