ROANOKE?- Elkins placed fourth among 28 teams during Top Flite Junior Tour action at Stonewall Resort on Monday.
University took top honors with a score of 230. Wheeling Park (231), George Washington (236) and the Tigers (245) followed. Roane County (246) rounded out the top three.
"We're definitely where we want to be at this point of the season," Elkins coach Dave Baird said. "We had a strong finish against a lot of good teams. And I was happy that we played well at the site of our regional tournament this season."
Braden Hammond and Alex Baird both shot 81 to pace Elkins.
"Braden and Alex played well at a tough golf course," Baird said. "They left a few shots out there today, but overall they did a good job. Hopefully they'll both continue to improve as the season goes on."
Kollin Hopwood finished with an 83, while Kelsi Trippett carded a 90 for the Tigers.
Charleston's William Evans and Bridgeport's Trent McPherson both hit 77 to tie for low medalist honors.
Elkins will return to action on Friday when it faces rival Buckhannon-Upshur at the Buckhannon Country Club. The match is the third of seven straight road matches for the Tigers.
"We're definitely in the middle of a lot of road matches," Baird said. "But I'd rather play away from home like we are now, and have more home matches once school starts."
Elkins won't return home until Aug. 29 when it entertains Lincoln for a Big 10 Conference match.
