The Elkins-Randolph YMCA is set to celebrate its 10th Drive for Fitness fundraiser by offering an evening of dancing, food and spirits at the Gandy Dancer Theatre in Elkins.
The event is scheduled for 7:30 to 11 p.m. Aug. 25, and it will be a departure from the elimination dinners held in past years. The board of directors is bringing the popular Charleston band, The Production Company, to the Gandy Dancer for the event.
Frequently booked at venues up and down the east coast, The Production Company has performed in Elkins at the Mountain State Forest Festival and the Davis Memorial Hospital Holly Ball. The band offers a range of rhythm and soul dance music with powerhouse vocals. The music spans the decades from classic Motown to Alicia Keys and the Black Eyed Peas.

The YMCA's fundraising chairman, Patti Reckart, said the board wanted to do something special for the community that supports the Y.
"We think people will enjoy being able to have a nice evening out, listen to a great band, dance, and socialize with friends - and support the YMCA at the same time," Reckart said. "It will be a no-pressure, fun night out and a change of pace to the traditional elimination dinner-style fundraising events."
"Our Drive for Fitness fundraiser is incredibly important to sustaining the programs at the YMCA," said Marjory Moses, board president.
"We know we are very lucky to have our local Y - it's more than a fitness center - it's a real hub for fitness, wellness and community activities for all ages. It's better than it's ever been, and our membership and programs are increasing. But first and foremost, the Y is about healthy kids; many kids come to the Y on youth scholarships. We really depend on our donors in order to keep our programs going, so we hope that those who care about the Y and believe in our mission will support our event on Aug. 25."
Sid Gillispie, executive director of the YMCA, plans to open the YMCA's babysitting room on the evening of the event for parents who need babysitting while they attend the dance. Space is limited, and arrangements must be made in advance by calling the YMCA at 304-636-4515.
