Elwood Dwight Poling, 90, of Meadowville community, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at his home, following an unexpected illness.
He was born Dec. 27, 1921, at Philippi, a son of the late Winfred H. And Linnie Grace England Poling.
On Aug. 27, 1948, he married the former Mary Rosaliea Findley, who preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Heaton and husband, Joseph, of Bay City, Texas, and Diane McDonald and husband, Kevin, of Vincent, Ohio; one son, Michael Poling and wife, Mary Jane, of Bernardsville, N.J.; one brother, Baxter L. Poling of Philippi; and five grandchildren, Erron McDonald, Jonathon McDonald, Michael Poling, Matthew Poling and Colleen Poling.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar Milton Poling, Herbert Marshall Poling, Clarence Eugene Poling and Donald Gene Poling.
Mr. Poling was a farmer and had been self-employed as a water well driller. He was a member of Central Chapel United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. John Flynn will officiate and interment will follow in Central Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 until 9 p.m. Sunday from 9 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, on Monday.
