Robert Glenn Tinney, 87, passed away on Aug. 1, 2012, at his home in Whetstone, Ariz.
Glenn was born July 11, 1925, at Gassaway. He was the son of Oscar B. and Clara Halstead Tinney, formerly of Elkins.
Glenn graduated from Elkins High School in 1944 and married Geraldine Powell on Aug. 9, 1949, who preceded him in death.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served as a ship mechanic in the Pacific during World War II and served on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Following his retirement from the Navy, he was employed as a security guard in Jacksonville, Fla., Elkins and Stockton, Calif.
Other than his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Tinney, Sylvia Clark and Mary Weiford; and his brothers, Blaine Tinney and Bernard Tinney. Glenn also is survived by four children, Ella Lancaster (Bill) of Woodbridge, Va., Della Bynum (Randy) of Reno, Nev., Flossie "Bobbie" Shock (Tom) of Vero Beach, Fla., and Robert "Buddy" Tinney of Whetstone, Ariz.; two brothers, Oscar Byrne "Junior" Tinney Jr. of Bakersville, N.C., and George (Vera) of Jane Lew; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with full military rites were conducted Aug. 6, in Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Hatfield Funeral Home, Sierra Vista, Ariz., was in charge of the arrangements.
