TENNERTON?- The Buckhannon-Upshur High School soccer teams will open the season Saturday at home against Brooke.

The boys contest is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., while the girls game will get under way at 1:30 p.m.

The Lady Bucs, who finished with a 17-2-1 record last season, lost just two players from last year's squad.

All-State first-team selection Emily Godwin returns along side an experienced Buckhannon-Upshur team for the 2012 season.

"It's nice that we return pretty much our entire team from last season," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Tom Hasbrouck. "We have an experience group back this season."

Leading the way for Buckhannon-Upshur is a pair first-team All-State selections, midfielder Emily Godwin and defender Lauren Cvechko.

Godwin was the Lady Buccaneers' top scorer last season.

"Hopefully Emily picks up where she left off last season," Hasbrouck said. "She is going to be a big part of our offense."

Other returning starters include: Brooklyn Waddell, Morgan Fair, Haley Ware, Hannah Stankus, Lindsey Beets, Kelsey Hinzman, Jessica Feronti, Torrie Ward and Alayna Wright.

Hinzman will be B-U's goal keeper. Freshman Taylor Starkey is projected to see playing time for the Lady Bucs.

The Buckhannon-Upshur boys team, meanwhile, will look to improve on last year's 9-10-1 mark.

The Buccaneers will return 12 players with starting experience.

Michael McCoy, Matthew Bellamy, Jordan Thomas, Dylan Hall, Marty Elliott, Chris Orwig, Will Baxa, Jacob Miller, Trey Short, Tyler Shreve, Ethan Beer and Christian Hamrick are all back for Buckhannon-Upshur.

"We played good soccer in the second half of the season last year," Buckhannon-Upshur coach Mike Donato said. "Hopefully we can carry some momentum into this year. We have a lot of kids back and we have high expectations for the upcoming season."
