Mountain State Forest Festival Director General Mike Karlen has announced the appointment of Corrie Elizabeth Burlas, of Bridgeport, to the 76th royal court of Queen Silvia.
She is the daughter of John and Debbie Burlas, of Clarksburg, and Sheree Thompson Burlas, of Bridgeport. Her grandparents are Fay and Herman Thompson, of Elkins, and Carl and Charlotte Burlas, of Latrobe, Pa. She also has two brothers, Danniel Minnis III and Frank Klepadlo.
She graduated from Robert C. Byrd High School in 2011 with academic honors at the top of her class. She was president of the National Honor Society, was active in student council, was a member of the RCB Marching Band Drumline and was a member of Students Against Drunk Driving. She is a sophomore at West Virginia University majoring in chemistry, and she hopes to pursue a career the medical field. She is a member of the WVU softball team as a catcher.
Burlas was chosen as the Harrison County Female Academic Athlete of the Year for 2011. She earned varsity letters in softball, swimming and volleyball, and she was co-captain of the softball team. She also was chosen as a member of the All Harrison County and All Big 10 softball and swim teams. She was a recipient of the WVU Rhododendron Scholarship, as well as the WVU Valedictorian Scholarship.
Burlas will join 37 princesses and the rest of the royal court descending coronation hill on Oct. 5 on the campus of Davis & Elkins College in Elkins.
