PHILIPPI - Alderson-Broaddus College is excited to announce it has accepted an invitation to join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The 2012-13 academic year will be the Battlers final season competing in its current conference.
"I would like to thank the G-MAC and its conference commissioner, Tom Daeger, for extending us the invitation," says Alderson-Broaddus College President Rick Creehan.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to join a new conference of like-minded, predominantly private institutions, with solid plans for growth and outstanding leadership under Commissioner Daeger."
The G-MAC was approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in February of 2012 as a member conference effective September 1, 2012. To learn more, please visit their official website at: www.g-macsports.com .
A-B Athletic Director Dennis Creehan states he and the entire athletic department are excited about this new transition.
"We are very enthusiastic about the future of A-B and our athletic programs," he said. "We look forward to competing with these schools and building new relationships. With our all-time high freshman class moving in this weekend and our athletic department continuing to expand, the time to be a Battler has never been more thrilling than now."
This year the A-B Athletic Department has increased to 16 sports. Next year, the College will have 22 intercollegiate sports and five spirit teams, bringing the department to 27 programs.
With the assistance of G-MAC leadership, Alderson-Broaddus has already begun exploring an affiliate membership for football in other conferences.
