State Director Bobby Lewis has announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development approved a Water and Waste Disposal Grant of $250,000 for the city of Belington in Barbour County.
Rural Development funds will be used to increase the current wastewater system from 220,000 to 365,000 gallons per day. Four lift stations will be renovated along with the replacement of collection lines that currently allow excessive infiltration and inflow into the system. The current system, built in 1972, cannot meet West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection discharge requirements. The city provides service to approximately 797 users.
This is a subsequent grant to cover a construction cost overrun. This completes a total Rural Development funding package of $6,093,000.
Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs and administers program assistance through its housing, business, community and infrastructure programs.
