Elkins takes second in Fairmont; TV and PB compete

FAIRMONT?- The Elkins High School golf team placed second at 4-team Big 10 Conference golf match Monday at the Greenhills Country Club.

Host-team North Marion won the match with a 154. Elkins (158), East Fairmont (167) and Lewis County (186) followed.

The Tigers' Braden Hammond was the low medalist for match after hitting a career-low 34.

"Branden has been disappointed with his last couple matches, but he came out played well today," Elkins coach Dave Baird said. "I was happy to see him come out and play one of the best matches he's ever had."

Kollin Hopwood (38), Alex Baird (41), Kelsi Trippett (45), Kole Hopwood (49) and Remington Knight (53) rounded out the scoring for Elkins.

"I was happy with our overall performance," Baird said. "I?still think we're heading in the right direction. Hopefully we can continue to play well our next time out."

Lewis County was led by Aaron Hall's 40. Jared Myers followed with a 47 for the Minutemen.

Cameron Wilson shot a 35 to lead North Marion and Brennan Vincent paced East Fairmont with a 38.

Elkins will return to action on Wednesday when it entertains a 5-team match at the Elks Country Club.

Bridgeport, Tygarts Vallley, Moorefield and East Hardy will be the other competitors in Wednesday contest.

BULLDOGS?AND?COLTS COMPETE?IN ?MATCH: Tygarts Valley and Philip Barbour competed in a 7-team match Monday at the Raven Golf Course in Snowshoe.

Greenbrier East took top honors for the day after shooting a 174. Philip Barbour (180) and Petersburg (193) rounded out the top three teams.

The Spartans' Griffin King and the Colts' Logan Collins earned low medalist after both golfers shot a 39.

Luke Freeman followed teammate Collins with a 43. Tyler Clifton hit a 48 for Philip Barbour.

Brian George paced the Vikings with a 43.

Trinity (199), Webster County (209), Pocahontas County (221) and Tygarts Valley (224) rounded out the field.

Parker White shot a 51 to lead the Warriors.

Tygarts Valley was led by Jared Wegman and Casey Martel, who both shot a 53.

"We're a young team, but our kids have been battling each time out," Tygarts Valley coach Mitch Channell said. "We are getting better each match. Hopefully there's good things to come for us in the future."

John Connor Tampoya was Trinity's top scorer after finishing with a 47.

Webster County's Garrett Doresy led his team on the day with a 44.

Tygarts Valley will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Elkins for a 5-team match. Elkins, Bridgeport, East Hardy and Moorefield will battle the Bulldogs at the Elks Country Club.
