The Elkins High School cross country teams returns experience on both the boys and girls side this season as they open the season Saturday at Marietta (Oh.).
The Tigers return four boys from last year's state meet.
The boys team placed 10th as a team in last year's meet.
Leading the way for Elkins will be junior Austin?Hamrick, who placed 24th overall at states.
"We're expecting him to have a good year for us again," Elkins head coach Shellie Burda said. "He was our number one last season, so hopefully he can lead us again this year."
Others returning runners include senior Nate Simons, junior Remington Knight and sophomore Matt Wallace.
Newcomer is senior Tyson Currence.
"I really do think we have a chance to make it back to the states for the boys," Burda said. "We can't afford the boys to get hurt with only have runners, "They are working hard and are anxious to see what happens."
The Lady Tigers also return a number of runners from last year including, senior Tenny DeMarco, sophomores Monica Rossi, Kathlyne Simmons and Hannah Gongola, along with seniors Lea Fedder, Jordan Holt, Karissa Stell and junior Cayla Collett.
Newcomers Eliza Cook and Simone Schafler will look to provide depth for EHS.
"The girls are doing well so far," Burda said. "We do return a lot of experience from last season which helps a lot."
