Edith Ida Wyatt Collett, 94, a life-time resident of Elkins, departed this life Thursday evening, August 23, 2012, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
She was born Thursday, Nov. 15, 1917, at Faulkner, a daughter of the late Marshall and Amanda May Smith Wyatt.
On March 30, 1940, at Monterey, Va., she was married to Howard Clay Collett, who preceded her in death May 22, 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Kathy Ann Lockhart, and husband, Dan, Lexington, Ky., and Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Paul Wyatt (Ruth), Edgar Wyatt (Julia), Earl Wyatt (Wanda) and Russell F. Wyatt, who was killed in action in Germany during World War II in Patton's 3rd Army during the Battle of the Bulge; and two sisters, Lillian Delores McQuain Breeden (Paul) and an infant, Olivia Wyatt.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, had worked at the W.T. Grant Co. for many years, and after the birth of her daughter became a homemaker. She was a poll volunteer for many elections and at the time of her death was the oldest living member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church where she was very active for several decades.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, Aug. 27, from noon to 1 p.m. On Monday, at 1 p.m., a funeral service will be conducted with the Rev. Dr. Bill Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
